CNOC Vecto 2L Water Container
Published · Researched 2026-09-21
2026 lineup note: Current. The Vecto 2L remains the thru-hiker's dirty-water reservoir of choice. Typical street price ~$25 (cited in 2026 filter-setup reviews, e.g. technewsvision). The VectoX variant (with the 28 mm + wide-mouth dual opening) is the current revision.
Version lineage (2023–2026)
- 2018 — Vecto launch: CNOC (a small outdoor brand) releases the Vecto — a soft flask with a wide-mouth slider opening for easy filling and a 28 mm thread for Sawyer filters. An instant thru-hiker hit.
- 2020 — VectoX: dual-opening revision — wide slider top + 28 mm bottom thread, so it works as both dirty bag and clean bottle.
- 2023–2026: No hardware revision found. The VectoX is the settled design; the REI-exclusive Sawyer Squeeze + CNOC 2L bundle ($64.95, REI 2026-09-20) confirms its mainstream status.
Overview
The CNOC Vecto 2L is a soft water reservoir — not a filter — that became famous as the Sawyer Squeeze's perfect partner. The wide-mouth slider opening fills easily from shallow sources (where rigid bottles struggle), the 28 mm thread screws directly onto the Squeeze, and the TPU film is dramatically tougher than Sawyer's stock pouches (the #1 failure point of the Squeeze kit). It weighs ~2.6 oz and packs flat.

Long-term durability & warranty-claim reality
- TPU vs Sawyer pouches: the entire product exists because Sawyer's stock pouches burst. The Vecto's TPU film is the fix — owners report seasons of use without the seam failures that plague the stock pouches. It's still a soft film: sharp objects and abrasion are the enemies, not squeezing.
- Slider seal: the wide-mouth slider is the wear point — grit in the slider track degrades the seal. Rinse it. Replacement sliders are cheap.
- 28 mm threads: molded plastic threads wear with repeated filter attachment — thread straight, don't overtighten.
- Warranty-claim reality: CNOC is a small company with a solid reputation; warranty terms are modest and UNVERIFIED in this pass. At $25, it's treated as a consumable-with-a-long-tail.
Head-to-head vs closest rivals
- vs Sawyer stock pouches: the Vecto wins on every axis except price-in-the-box (the pouches come free with the Squeeze). Every experienced Squeeze user upgrades.
- vs SmartWater bottles: SmartWater bottles are the rigid-bottle standard (free, everywhere, indestructible-ish); the Vecto is the soft-reservoir standard (packs flat, fills from trickles). Most thru-hikers carry both: Vecto for dirty, SmartWater for clean.
- vs HydraPak Seeker: the Seeker is the other major soft reservoir; the Vecto's slider opening and Squeeze-native threading give it the edge in the filter-pairing role.
Care & maintenance
- Rinse the slider track — grit is the seal killer.
- Dry before storage — TPU can grow biofilm; store with the slider open.
- Don't fill with boiling water — TPU has temperature limits; warm is fine, boiling is not.
- Inspect seams seasonally — the film is tough but not immortal.
Buying traps
- Vecto vs VectoX: the X has the dual opening (slider top + 28 mm bottom). For Squeeze pairing, the X is the one you want.
- 2 L vs 3 L: the 2 L is the sweet spot; the 3 L is for long carries. Don't buy the 3 L "just in case" — a full 3 L Vecto is 6.6 lbs of awkward.
- It's not a filter: obvious, but bundle listings confuse first-time buyers — the Vecto is the dirty bag, the Squeeze is the filter.
Community Verdict
- The thru-hiker standard: "my setup for the Sawyer Squeeze is a 2L Cnoc VectoX water bladder for dirty water... and two Smart Water bottles for clean" (technewsvision, 2026) — this exact configuration is the most-copied water system in North American thru-hiking.
- The REI bundle: REI selling a Squeeze + CNOC kit is the mainstreaming moment — the cottage-gear fix became the retail default.
- The honest assessment: nobody reviews the Vecto as exciting; everybody reviews it as the thing that stopped their pouches from bursting.
