ESEE Izula-II (IZULA-II-B, black)
Published · Researched 2026-09-21
2026 lineup note: Current. The Izula-II (longer-handled successor to the original Izula) remains ESEE's compact fixed-blade EDC/bushcraft knife in 1095 carbon steel with canvas Micarta scales and a molded polymer sheath. MSRP $130.16; street $89.99 (observed 2026-09-20). The Izula-II Kit (knife + MOLLE back, paracord, etc.) runs MSRP $146 / street $109.99.
Version lineage (2023–2026)
- 2009–2015: Izula (original) — ESEE's breakout neck knife: 2.63 in blade, skeletonized handle with paracord wrap option, 1095 steel, unconditional lifetime warranty. Named for an ESEE staffer's encounter with an izula (bullet ant).
- 2015–2022: Izula-II launched — ~0.5 in longer handle with full canvas-Micarta scales standard; same 1095 blade. Offered with and without kit.
- 2023–2026: Izula-II current — unchanged; black (IZULA-II-B) and other colors (OD green, desert tan) continued. ESEE also sells S35VN stainless Izula variants for those who want rust resistance — a different SKU at a higher price.
Overview
The Izula-II is the small fixed blade that EDC and bushcraft communities treat as the default "real knife in a tiny package": 1095 carbon steel that's tough and easy to sharpen in the field, a handle long enough for a full grip (the fix the original Izula needed), and ESEE's famous no-questions-asked lifetime warranty. At ~3.2 oz it's lighter than most folders while being stronger than all of them. The honest tradeoffs: 1095 rusts if neglected, the molded sheath's retention runs stiff when new, and it's too small to be anyone's only wilderness blade.

Community Verdict
GearJunkie's review: as a secondary knife the Izula-II is "pretty compelling" — multitude of carry options, rock-solid construction, ESEE warranty — while noting it can't replace a primary wilderness blade (can't strike a flint, rides high, short blade). Owner reviews (Desertcart/Amazon mirrors, June 2026) call it "the best knife, and knife company I have ever used," praising the compact carry and no-questions warranty, with the stiff molded sheath the recurring gripe. KnivesAdvisor (2026): "hard to recommend anything but the Izula-II" for a compact light EDC fixed blade at ~$75–90 street. No fabricated scores.
