Lineup & lineage (2023–2026)
The Vizz has been Princeton Tec's do-everything headlamp for over a decade, evolving through output bumps (150 → 205 → 420 → 550 lm). The current VIZZ22 generation: 550 lm Maxbright LED, dual white Ultrabright flood LEDs, dual red LEDs, IPX7, 92 g, all modes dimmable, digital lockout. Unchanged through 2023–2026.
Overview
A 92 g, 550-lumen AAA headlamp built around versatility: one Maxbright spot LED, two white Ultrabright flood LEDs for battery-saving area light, and two red LEDs for night vision — all dimmable. IPX7 waterproofing (1 m, 30 min) and U.S. manufacture are the calling cards.

Community verdict
A cult favorite among paddlers, cavers, and general campers: the IPX7 rating is genuinely trusted ("I don't have to worry about it in the boat"), the dimmable flood is the standout feature for tent/camp use, and Made-in-USA matters to buyers. A BWCA forum user reports 10 years of moderate use from theirs. Criticisms: bulky on the forehead, the button-sequence UI confuses new users, and it always powers on to red (by design).
Durability & warranty-claim reality
The Vizz's reputation is durability-first: decade-long service lives are commonly reported. The battery-door screw loosening is the known annoyance (check it periodically). Princeton Tec's U.S.-based support has a strong reputation in paddling/caving communities.

Closest existing catalog rivals
- specs/black-diamond-spot-400-r.md — rechargeable mainstream rival; the Vizz's edge is IPX7 and AAA simplicity.

Care
Remove AAA batteries for long storage (leak prevention); check the battery-door screw; rinse after saltwater use.
Buying traps
- Variant trap: Vizz Tactical/Industrial/RGB are different products — verify the standard outdoor Vizz (VIZZ22).
- AAA-powered in a rechargeable world — factor battery cost/waste, or use lithium AAAs.
- Always-on-to-red UI and the button sequences take learning.
Additional community voices
- Trailspace reviewers praise the big switch button (glove-friendly) and the lockout.
- Paddling communities treat IPX7 as the reason to choose it over everything else in the price class.
