Identifier: Fenix HL18R-T V2.0 (MPN HL18RTV2BK / HL18R-T-V2-POLAR-NIGHT-BLACK). | Lineup note: This dossier covers the V2.0 generation — do not mix with the original HL18R-T V1 (lower output, different UI). Fenix's lightweight trail-running headlamp with cool white + CRI80 warm white + red.
All prices and spec claims dated 2026-09-20.
Lineup & lineage (2023–2026)
The HL18R-T V1 was a 500-lm trail headlamp. The V2.0 (current since ~2023) raised output to 800 lm cool white, added a 500-lm CRI80 warm-white channel, kept the dual-fuel design (1900 mAh pack or 3× AAA), and moved charging to USB-C. It has remained the current generation through 2026.
Overview
A 103 g trail-running headlamp with three emitter channels: Luminus SST25 cool white (6000K, 800 lm), Luminus SST20 warm white (3000K, CRI80, 500 lm), and dual red LEDs. Dual top buttons, slide lockout switch, SPORT Fit headband with rotary dial, reflective trim, and an emergency whistle in the buckle. IP66, 1 m impact rated.

Community verdict
Trail runners rate it as one of the best value high-output running headlamps: the warm-white high-CRI channel is genuinely useful for reading terrain, the SPORT Fit dial headband stays put, and dual-fuel means you're never stranded. 1lumen's measured 746 lm vs 800 claimed is close enough that nobody cries foul. Criticisms: cool-white-first UI (warm requires switching), and the usual Fenix mode-count complexity.
Durability & warranty-claim reality
IP66 and 1 m impact ratings hold up in practice; the headband dial and buckle whistle are the most failure-prone bits. Fenix's warranty service reputation is solid in the flashlight community. The slide lockout switch prevents the classic pack-activation battery drain.
Year-by-year history
- 2023: V2.0 launches (800 lm, warm CRI80 channel, USB-C) — 50%+ output boost over V1.
- 2024: Established as the value trail-running pick.
- 2025: Current; 1lumen review confirms near-claim output.
- 2026: Current as of 2026-09-20; no V3 announced.
Closest existing catalog rivals
- specs/fenix-hm65r-t.md — Fenix's premium dual-beam trail headlamp; magnesium build, higher price.
- specs/fenix-hm23-v20.md — Fenix's budget AA headlamp; far simpler and dimmer.
- specs/black-diamond-spot-400-r.md — mainstream rechargeable trail headlamp; the HL18R-T V2.0's edge is output and the warm channel.
Care
Keep the USB-C port cover seated; rinse the headband after sweaty runs; use the slide lockout in transit.
Buying traps
- V1 vs V2 trap: older HL18R-T (non-V2) stock is dimmer with a different UI — verify "V2.0" / 800 lm.
- 800 lm is the cool-white turbo; warm-white tops at 500 lm.
- 3.33 h turbo runtime is step-down-inclusive; sustained high is lower.
Additional community voices
- 1lumen's review measured 746 lm and 131 m — validating Fenix's claims within normal tolerance.
- Running communities praise the emergency whistle buckle as a thoughtful touch.
