Community verdict

Unremarkable in the best way. It's the REI version of the chair every family already owns — bought on sale, tossed in the trunk, replaced every few years without grief. No enthusiast content, no complaints of note. Against the Coleman Kids Quad Chair, the REI wins on the guarantee and slightly nicer fabric; against the Helinox Chair One Mini, it loses on weight and pack size but wins decisively on price. The community verdict is the sales rack: at ~$30, it's the right chair for the job nobody photographs.

Durability & warranty reality

Quad-fold steel chairs last 2–4 seasons of kid abuse; the fabric at the frame corners wears first. At ~$30 on sale, replacement beats repair — and REI's guarantee covers the first year regardless.

Yearly history

• 2023–2026: stable house-brand item; sale pricing ~$30 recurring.

Comparisons (existing catalog rivals)

• Coleman Kids Quad Chair: The direct rival — same format, similar price. REI wins on guarantee; Coleman wins on ubiquity and colorways.
• Helinox Chair One Mini (this expansion): $89.95, 1 lb, packs tiny. Helinox for backpacking families; REI for car-camping value.
• REI Co-op Flexlite Camp Chair: REI's adult lightweight chair — the "when the kid outgrows the kids' chair" upgrade path within the co-op.

Care

Wipe clean; air-dry before bagging. Check frame rivets seasonally.

Buying traps & CPSC recalls

• No CPSC recall found (2026-09-20 search).
• Trap: 125 lb capacity — teens will exceed it; size up to the adult REI Camp Chair.
• Trap: list vs. sale — rarely worth $39.95 when $29.89 sales recur.

Additional voices

• None of note — the sales rack is the review.

Spec gap-fill

• Open/folded dimensions, frame material spec: UNVERIFIED.
