PACT Lite Bathroom Kit
Published · Researched 2026-09-21
Brand: PACT · Model: Lite Bathroom Kit · Category: Backcountry cathole kit Lineup note: PACT (pactoutdoors.com) makes pack-out-oriented bathroom kits; the Lite is the ultralight, week-long variant. This is a system — shovel + wipes + mycelium tabs — not just a trowel.
Version Lineage (2023–2026)
- The PACT Lite Bathroom Kit has been sold at $40 through 2023–2026 with no announced redesign.
- Kit concept is stable: aluminum shovel, 20 compressed wipes, 60 mycelium tabs (20 uses), all stored in the shovel's integrated handle storage.
Overview
A 120 g (4 oz) stocked-for-a-week bathroom system in an 8.5 × 1.75 × 1 in package: an aluminum cathole shovel with storage in the handle, 20 compressed wipes, and 60 mycelium tabs (3 tabs per use × 20 uses). The mycelium tabs are designed to accelerate decomposition of buried waste. IMPORTANT: PACT itself instructs users to pack out toilet paper and follow local regulations — the tabs do not make waste legal to leave where pack-out is mandatory.

Community Verdict (qualitative)
PACT is the premium, design-forward answer to the cathole kit — popular with thru-hikers and Leave-No-Trace-conscious backpackers who want a complete, ultralight system rather than assembling trowel + TP + sanitizer separately. The $40 price for a consumable kit is the recurring debate: fans say the all-in-one convenience and 4 oz weight justify it; skeptics note a trowel and a zip bag of TP do the same job for less. No scored consensus.
Care
- Clean and dry the shovel after each trip; aluminum needs no special treatment.
- Store tabs dry — moisture degrades them.
- Compressed wipes need water to expand; keep them sealed until use.
Buying Traps
- Regulations first: Mycelium tabs do not override pack-out rules. Where land managers require human-waste pack-out (e.g., many alpine, desert, and river areas), you need a bag system like Cleanwaste instead.
- Consumable cost: The $40 covers 20 uses; refills are an ongoing cost.
- Pack out paper: PACT's own instructions say to pack out toilet paper — plan a waste bag for that.

Comparisons
deuce-of-spades-trowel(existing): The Deuce is a 0.6 oz ultralight trowel alone (~$20+); PACT Lite is a full 4 oz system at $40 — trowel-only vs complete-kit philosophies.qiwiz-big-dig-trowel(this round): QiWiz is a handmade titanium trowel (~$36, 0.6 oz) for diggers who assemble their own kit; PACT is the integrated alternative.cleanwaste-toilet-in-a-bag(this round): Opposite regulatory use case — Cleanwaste for mandatory pack-out areas, PACT for legal-burial areas.
