Version Lineage (2023–2026)
- 2023–2024: Camp Boss established in the Flexlite lineup at $119.95; earlier "Macro" predecessor remembered by reviewers as a 3-year survivor before ember damage.

Overview
The Camp Boss is REI's answer for campers who like the Flexlite pack-down concept but want a bigger, sturdier sit: a wider, lower-slung chair in durable 300D ripstop with a 300 lb rating. At 2 lb 14 oz it's still genuinely packable for a chair this comfortable, and it carries REI's member-dividend and return ecosystem.

Pricing (2026-09-20, USD)
- MSRP: $119.95
- Street price: REI member sales frequently drop it to ~$89–$99 — prices checked 2026-09-20.
In the Box
- Chair with shock-corded frame
- Seat sling
- Carry bag
Warranty
- REI 1-year satisfaction guarantee (returns for any reason within a year of purchase for members) plus manufacturer defect coverage beyond.
Support & Parts
- REI's in-store and online support; replacement parts availability is modest — REI's strength is the return/replace policy rather than a parts catalog.
Community Verdict
A staff pick for a reason: owners describe it as the "just right" big chair — noticeably roomier than the standard Flexlite without the bulk of a quad chair. Man Makes Fire praised the durable 300D ripstop; one reviewer's older Macro predecessor survived three seasons before a campfire ember ended it. 298 reviews signal a deep owner base.
Long-Term Durability & Warranty-Claim Reality
REI's 1-year no-questions return policy is the real warranty story — community members routinely exchange chairs with early frame or stitching issues. Beyond year one, durability reports are solid: the 300D fabric resists abrasion well. Ember damage is the recurring killer across all polyester chairs.
Year-by-Year Version History
- 2023: Current generation in lineup.
- 2024–2026: No structural changes found; colorways rotate. The "Macro" name is retired/legacy.
Head-to-Head vs Catalog Rivals
- vs REI Flexlite Camp Chair: The Boss is bigger, lower, and sturdier-feeling; the standard Flexlite is lighter and cheaper. Same ecosystem, different missions.
- vs ALPS Mountaineering King Kong: King Kong is the heavy-duty armchair (and heavier); the Boss is the packable middle ground — half the weight, still roomy.
- vs Helinox Chair One: Helinox packs smaller and has the 5-year warranty; the Boss is roomier, cheaper at sale prices, and REI-returnable.
Care & Maintenance
- Spot-clean with mild soap; dry fully before packing.
- Keep clear of embers; store uncompressed when possible.
Buying Traps
- Low sit (14 in): Great for lounging, harder for tall folks or bad knees to exit.
- Don't confuse with the Flexlite Camp Dreamer: The Dreamer is the recliner-style sibling — check the product name on sale listings.
Additional Community Voices
- Man Makes Fire: durable 300D ripstop highlighted; predecessor Macro lasted three years of hard use before ember damage — a realistic lifespan data point.
- REI's 298-review base skews positive with comfort as the recurring theme.
