Kijaro Dual Lock Chair

Published · Researched 2026-09-21

Type: Folding camp chair with locking frame | Brand: Kijaro Identifiers: Dual Lock mechanism locks the chair both OPEN and CLOSED; steel frame; MLB-licensed prints available Lineup note: Kijaro's flagship — a category-defying feature (it locks shut for carrying) in a sub-$75 chair. Research date: 2026-09-20

Version Lineage (2023–2026)

• 2023–2024: Dual Lock established as Kijaro's signature model; base and print (incl. MLB) variants.
• 2025–2026: Current SKU; $70 base / $75 prints. OutdoorGearLab comparison testing (score 68) noted best-in-class seat support.

Overview

The Kijaro Dual Lock's party trick is genuinely useful: the frame locks both open (no accidental collapse) and closed (carries like a briefcase with the included strap instead of flopping around). Add a 20-inch seat height — chair height, not lounger height — dual cup holders, and an organizer, and it's the tailgate-to-campsite workhorse for people who hate low chairs.

Community Verdict

The lock-closed carry is the feature owners evangelize — anyone who's wrestled a floppy bag chair through a parking lot gets it. OutdoorGearLab's comparison testing gave it a 68 with a nod for best seat support in its class. The 20-inch seat height wins over tall and older campers who struggle with low loungers.

Long-Term Durability & Warranty-Claim Reality

Steel frame = heavy but durable; the Dual Lock mechanism is the part to watch — keep it clean and don't force it. At $70, community expectations are "lasts years, not decades," and it generally delivers. Warranty claims go through Kijaro directly; experiences are mixed-to-positive, nothing like REI's no-questions window.

Year-by-Year Version History

• 2023–2026: Continuous SKU; new prints/patterns added; no structural redesign documented.

Head-to-Head vs Catalog Rivals

• vs Coleman Oversized Quad Chair: The classic quad chair is cheaper and roomier but flops around when carried and sits lower; the Kijaro locks shut and sits at real-chair height.
• vs ALPS Mountaineering King Kong: King Kong is the heavy-duty armchair king (800 lb rating); the Kijaro is the everyday carrier — lighter, with the lock feature, lower capacity.
• vs GCI Freestyle Rocker: Rocker for motion lovers; Kijaro for sitters who want stability and easy transport.

Care & Maintenance

• Hose off dirt; dry steel frame joints to prevent rust at scratches.
• Don't force the lock mechanism; keep pivots free of sand.
• Store dry; the carry bag is not waterproof.

Buying Traps

• 9.5 lb is heavy for any carry distance — this is a car-camping/tailgate chair, not a walk-in chair.
• Print upcharge: Licensed prints cost $5 more for identical construction.
• Lock ≠ bombproof: The open-lock prevents accidental fold, not structural overload — respect the 300 lb rating.

Additional Community Voices

• Tailgating communities treat it as a default recommendation — the closed-lock carry through crowded lots is the recurring praise point.
• Comparison reviewers single out seat support as class-leading at the price.
